Gerry Jacobs, during the early sunrise on Monday, August 17, 2020, after a short tough battle with cancer, was reunited with his sons, Bradley and Douglas as well as his mom and dad, Gilbert and Jessie Jacobs, sister Elnora and cousin Ernie Jacobs in heaven.
Gerry was an immensely caring and loving father and husband who never stopped teaching his children the value of hard work, determination and to just be yourself. He was always there for those he loved with an encouraging word of wisdom or a listening ear when you needed it most. Dad was always one with a sense of humour that had a way of making anyone laugh.
He loved his family and the church. He enjoyed looking after the church yard. This was something that he was passionate about and took great pride in. He was a well-respected man in the church family and never lost faith during his journey.
He deeply loved his wife Irene and their children, Rob (Vanessa), Dave (Bambe), Paul, Amanda, Steve and Khris, and his grandkids, Carter, Annie and Danica.
Gerry was born in Moosomin, Saskatchewan and grew up on his family's farm near Manson, Manitoba where he learned family values, hard work and love of God from his mom and dad. His sister Edith remembers how their parents said it was such a delight to have a boy after having all girls. He loved his first motorcycle and had a Honda bike later in life from his son Rob. He moved to Winnipeg at 17 to look for a job in the city. He recently retired from Western Grocers after many years with the company and continued on with his own side business of lawn care and snow removal. He was very meticulous on his client's yards, and despite always working hard he always found time to chat.
To neighbours he was the friendly old man with the crazy beard who would hook you in with a long conversation about whatever topic and keep you there and you wouldn't want to end the conversation even if you were running late.
