Giuseppe Di Marco

On March 12, 2024, Giuseppe Di Marco passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 99.

Giuseppe will be lovingly remembered by Maria, his wife of 68 years; his sons Giovanni (Shari) and Marcello (Karen); grandchildren Bryan (Jenelle), Alyssa (Aaron), Ashley (Garrett), Kristen (David), Jenna and Cara (Benny); and his great-granddaughter Leighton. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Antoinetta Di Marco and cousin Lino (Romanina) Cerqueti and their families of Winnipeg, in addition to numerous nieces/nephews and extended family/friends in Winnipeg and Italy.

Giuseppe was predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Sophia; sisters Antonietta (Marino) and Santarela (Pierino); brothers Guerino (Leondina) and Antonio.

Giuseppe was born on October 4, 1924, in Atri, Italy, where he grew up on the family farm. At the age of 23, Giuseppe moved to San Remo, Italy to work in the floral industry. He relocated to Belgium in 1949 to work in the coal mines. In search of a better life, he later immigrated to Canada at the age of 30 without knowing a word of English. He briefly worked for CN Rail in Thunder Bay until he moved to Winnipeg in 1955. At that time, he invited his future wife Maria to migrate from Italy to join him in setting down roots and to start a family. While in Winnipeg, Giuseppe became a skilled tile setter for 14 years, where many of his beautiful projects can still be admired. In 1969, Giuseppe obtained employment in custodial services at the Misericordia General Hospital until his retirement in 1989. His work ethic, dedication, and modesty will always be remembered.

Giuseppe took special pride in his gardening and pruning skills. His other hobbies included winemaking, travelling, playing card games, storytelling, and spending time with his family and friends.

Condolences will be received on Friday March 22nd at 10am, followed by mass at 11am, in Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum located at 1501 Waverley St. Reception to follow at Thomson "In the Park".

We would like to sincerely thank the Home Care staff for all their kindness and compassion while caring for our Dad/Nonno in his final years.
