

Irene Vermeulen (nee Spurrill)
With great sadness we announce the passing of IRENE VERMEULEN (nee SPURRILL). Our Mother, Grandma, Mamma, “Shrama”, Great and Great-great Grandma.
Irene passed away peacefully and with grace the same way she lived her entire 102 years. Her life was full of living, love, a few tears, laughter, Family … always smiling and looking on the bright side. She was a woman of great faith. One of her favourite sayings: “We can only do the best that we can”. Mom, you sure did your best every day and for everyone in your Family. We love you and will miss you so very much.
Left to mourn her passing are her children: Evelyn Lane, Carol Anne (Jon) Mikkelsen; grandchildren: Bev Maslow (Keith Eyolfson), Greg Lane (Krista Bissett), David Lane, Michael Mikkelsen (Nicole), Kristopher Mikkelsen (Quynh Anh); great-grandchildren Justin Maslow (Francesca Gatti), Jeffery Maslow (Felicia), Addison and Christian Lane, Samuel and Khloe Mikkelsen; and great-great grandchildren: Jaxon and Jace Maslow, Mila Maslow. As well as several cherished nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Frederick and Florida (Bond) Spurrill, husband, Connie Vermeulen and son, Frederick Vermeulen.
Irene spent many years employed by the Hudson’s Bay, downtown. She was the Past President of the Catholic Womens’ League of Canada of which she was a member for 78 years. She enjoyed travelling with her husband, Connie. She was very involved in all of her family’s life events. She thoroughly enjoyed being a Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bomber fan. She spent her final years at Lindenwood Manor, cared for by very attentive staff.
The Funeral Service for Irene will take place on Thursday, Sept 22, 2022 at 11:00am at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association.
