Jagir was born in Tarewala, Moga, Punjab. She was the eldest of six children (three sisters and two brothers) and wife to the late Nihal Singh Brar from the village of Smalsar. She immigrated to Canada in 1974, where she spent the remainder of her life. She is survived by her four sons (Sukhdev, Baldev, Nachattar, and Sewak) and daughter-in-laws who she treated as her own daughters. Her spirit lives on in her nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Affectionately referred to by all as Baibai, she was well respected in the Punjabi community. As a longstanding member of the Sikh Society of Manitoba, her faith was very important to her. She would always keep everyone in her prayers.
She will be remembered for her strong will, sense of humour, disciplined approach to daily routines, the life lessons she imparted, and abundance of love she had for everyone around her. Baibai was also known for her generosity; no one left a visit without a “Good Luck Puth” and enough money for a Slurpee.
Baibai was always vocal about how fortunate she was to have experienced a full and blessed life with a large family and community who supported her. The family take solace in this and the legacy she leaves behind.
