John was a passionate man who loved life, his family, and his many friends. John was known for his strong opinions and was always up for a lively conversation. A generous friend, John loved sharing his perogies, cabbage rolls, woodcarvings and his eye for deals. He was an educator, an innovator, a woodworker, a gardener, and a Mr. Fix-it. He had a deep commitment to the First Nations people of Manitoba. John spent 34 years with Indian Affairs holding a variety of positions; starting as a teacher at Little Grand Rapids, principal at Fort Alexander, moving to the Regional Office in a number of education positions, before transitioning to the Social Development and Economic Development areas. He took early retirement and spent the last 22 years travelling and enjoying all the adventures a well-lived life has to offer. The family wants to thank the staff of the Community Dialysis Unit at the Health Sciences Centre (HSC), especially Judy Olson and Alison Lindsay.
A special thank you to John's brother-in-law, Bill Routledge, for his dedication to John in his last days. We would also like to thank the staff of GD4 HSC for making John's last days comfortable.
A Gathering to celebrate John's life will be held Sunday, December 2 at Thomson ''In the Park" , 1291 McGillvray Blvd. at 2:00 p.m.
