It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Jose Abulencia Macaraeg on August 25, 2025, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 74.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Jobelle (Duy), who was the centre of his life. He will also be deeply missed by his brothers, Rolando, Renato, and Cristalino; sisters, Erlinda, Maria Asuncion, and Celedonia; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended family, and close friends from Winnipeg, California, and the Philippines. Jose was predeceased by his beloved wife Loreta, father Eulogio, mother Juana, and brother Emmanuel.
Jose was known for his kind spirit and sweetest smile, one that instantly brightened the room and made those around him feel at ease. He had a deep love for music, often playing his favourite bands and artists like The Beatles, The Bee Gees, and Elvis Presley. Whether singing karaoke to his favourite songs, composing his own music, or playing the guitar with his friends, music was his way of keeping his joy alive.
Above all, Jose’s greatest pride was being a father. Jobelle was his world, and he devoted his life to loving and caring for her, raising her with love, patience, and sacrifice. In his later years, as his health declined, that same love was returned to him. Jobelle cared for her dad with the same devotion he had shown her, supporting him, and making sure he felt comforted and cherished. The bond they shared was unbreakable, a true reflection of love and respect between father and daughter.
Though he is deeply missed, he is now at peace reunited in Heaven with his dearest wife Loreta, and embraced by loved ones who went before him. His love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who cared for him, especially his daughter, who carries forward his spirit and memory.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home (1291 McGillivray Blvd.), with a prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Parish (836 Arlington St.), followed by interment at Waverley Memorial Gardens (1501 Waverley St.).
The family is deeply thankful for the love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, for those who would like to help with funeral expenses, contributions can be made by e-transfer to [email protected]. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
