Joy Hood

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Wanda Joy Hood, at the age of 91, on 17th April 2025. She was a remarkable woman whose life was filled with love, happiness, and a boundless spirit of creativity and adventure.

Born on 10 September 1933 in Sydney Australia, Joy lived a rich and fulfilling life, touching the hearts of all who knew her. She was the cherished wife of her devoted husband, Russ, for an incredible 69 years. Their enduring love story was a testament to their partnership, their shared values, and their mutual support throughout the years.

Together, they had five children, David, Lynette, Brian, Sandra, and Denise, who carry with them the countless lessons their mother instilled in them; kindness, perseverance, and a passion for life. Her family was her greatest joy, and she was a constant source of love, wisdom, and strength to her children and her grandchildren.

Joy was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a gifted dressmaker and an accomplished seamstress and knitter, able to create beautiful, intricate designs that reflected her attention to detail and creative eye. She loved her cards and board games, bridge was one of her favourites, hosting or attending bridge nights quite often. She had a love for the outdoors, with a passion for golf and curling; activities she pursued with enthusiasm and skill. Whether casting a line in the water while fishing or gathered with friends around a bonfire at the lake, she always found comfort in nature and cherished the simple pleasures of life.

Her volunteer work was another significant part of her life, having spent many years on the board and chair of the Victoria Hospital Foundation. She gave generously of her time and energy to various causes, always seeking to make a positive difference in the community.

Her wit, laughter, strength, and her unshakable love for her family will never be forgotten. Joy's legacy lives on in her 4 children, 26 grandchildren and great grandchildren, and all of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Joy was predeceased by her daughter Sandra; her parents, Milly Watson & Jack Wright; and her brothers, John and Bob Wright.

A service will be held in her honour at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Victoria Hospital Guild.
