

Left behind to forever cherish Leo’s memory is his loving wife of 71 years, Helen; his children Joyce (John), Sharron (Lenard), and Lorne; grandchildren Shannon (Barry), Lori (Dale), Darren (Stacy), Nicole, and Brent; great-grandchildren Shelbie, Cameron, Carter, Madison, Adrianna, Aleena, Brodie, and Erika; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Alma and Arthur Rougeau, three brothers and three sisters.
Leo was born January 9, 1920 in Otterburne, Manitoba to Alma Corbin and Arthur Rougeau. He grew up in the Giroux/Otterbourne area and served in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces.
He met Helen Cox and they were married August 8, 1946. They celebrated 71 years of marriage this year.
He had his own trucking business for a number of years and then became employed with Imperial Oil Limited.
Leo and Helen resided all their married life in North Kildonan. He served as a councillor for the North Kildonan Municipality for approximately 15 years until the amalgamation with the City of Winnipeg. Leo was involved with the local community club activities while his children were growing up.
He enjoyed camping and fishing and travelling to numerous locations in Canada and the US with family and friends.
Shortly after Manitoba Public Insurance came to be in Manitoba, he joined the company as a supervisor of the receiving department on Plessis Road. He retired from MPI after approximately 15 years of service and He and Helen spent the next 20 Manitoba winters in Harlingen, Texas. This is where he found his love for golf. They made many dear friends, some of whom they have still keep in contact with.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to thank the nurses, doctors and support staff at Concordia Hospital. A special thanks to Pamela for her care and compassion.
A Celebration of Leo’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Klassen Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Transcona Cemetery.
