Peacefully Lorraine Dreger passed away with her family by her side on December 15/2021 at the age of 89 years old.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Allan; sons Raymond (Michelle) and Richard (Kim), grandchildren, Chayla, Jaylene, Madison, Chase and Austin; great-grandchildren Makena and Kalea, and her sisters Adeline Schmall and Evelyn McNeil.
She was predeceased by her parents Emil and Helena Schweitz and brother Harold Schweitz.
Lorraine was born in Morris, Manitoba on July 24/1932 and made her home there for a number years before her and husband Allan moved to Winnipeg. She was employed at MTS for a short time as a telephone operator, and had seasonal employment with Manitoba sugar during the harvest season.
Mom was always there to provide family support whether it was transporting the kids to sporting events (hockey/baseball etc.), babysitting on sometimes short notice, serving delicious meals and managing the day-to-day home duties. She was always on call and never said “no”. She was always willing to help out in any way.
She also had an extreme talent with the sewing machine, knitting needles, and crochet hooks. Some of her projects are still on display throughout the family home. Mom had an incredible ability with canning goods in the fall. The crab apple jelly and her pickles are going to be missed dearly. Mom had a great sense of pride with the appearance of her home. There was nothing out of place and everything had to be just right. Her organizational skills were exceptional. She was very independent, even up until her eyesight began to fail. She was still able to provide for the family at meals and gatherings, and never let her eyesight become an issue.
Mom was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in the last year, which caused some discomfort. However throughout the challenge she was still able to provide a sense of humor and composure and never complained. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the Victoria & Misericordia Hospitals for the care that she received during her time of need.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorraine’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 110-1525 Carling Ave, Ottawa, On, K1Z 8R9
