Peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Misericordia Health Centre our Mother and Grandmother passed away at the age of 91. Mom was born in Starbuck, Manitoba on August 1, 1932, daughter of Bernice and Joseph Todd. She was predeceased by her husband Esmail Bavasah in 2010 and her daughter-in-law Jackie Robinson in 2021.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Jody Reaburn (Steve) and son Jeff Woods; grandchildren Jennifer, David (Aleeya) and Kevin Reaburn, Daryl and Darcy Robinson and Lisa Groen. She also leaves to mourn her passing her sister Valerie Metz and niece and nephews Jacqui (Mohamed), David and Greg Metz.
Mom grew up on a farm near Starbuck and then enrolled in Home Economics at the University of Manitoba. In the following years, she married and had her children. During her career as a Home Economics teacher with the Winnipeg School Division, she achieved recognition for outstanding contributions to extra-curricular activities at St. John’s High School; acted as President of the Home Economics Teachers Association; received an Honorary life membership in Manitoba Home Economics Association for education work in the field of Home Economics through her involvement in curriculum revision; workshops on teaching boys in clothing and textiles and developing a curriculum to teach boys in senior High School Home Economics.
Mom took an interest in her community and was an active member of the NDP for many years canvassing and engaging in committee work.
Following retirement mom married Esmail Bavasah and they spent their retirement travelling the world, spending many a winter in Esmail’s hometown, Cape Town, South Africa.
Most important to mom was her family. Watching her children grow and witnessing their accomplishments and then that of her grandchildren. Family gatherings gave her great enjoyment and satisfaction.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long
And not with your head bowed low
Remember the love that we once shared
Miss me but let me go.
