Lucy May James (Lou) was born 1924 in Dufferin- Lisgar District, Manitoba to John T. and Mary Fetterly nee Allan. She was raised during the Depression and the fear of want never left. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Edward James, sisters Nellie, Peggy, Lillian, Annie and brother Bill. Lou joined the Army where she met and married the love of her life, Tommy James while stationed at Camp Borden, Ont during the war. Tommy passed away in 1991 and the light went out and life, for her, was never the same. She raised two daughters: Judy (Irvin) McCallister and Donna (Jim) Douglas in North Kildonan. Mom was a doer. She taught Sunday School at North Kildonan United. She, with friend, Lucy LeGrand, began the 101st Brownie Pack out of Lord Kitchener School. She and Tommy enjoyed Square Dancing with best friends, Bruce and Helen James. They danced with the Go-phers, the Twirlers, and other groups, in jamborees, camporees in the rain, the snow and in the water just having fun. Mom worked at the Health Sciences Women's Pavilion for many years as a ward clerk. After Tommy died, she moved to the Serena Apts. In her early eighties, she took up bowling with Lesley LeGrand. When her health deteriorated in 2006 she moved to Pinecrest Home in Kenora.
She leaves behind sister in law Ruth (Ken) Veale of Hamilton, grandchilden Bryan and Scott Douglas, Jessica and Chris McCallister as well as dear friends from North Kildonan. Many thanks to the many wonderful staff at Pinecrest Home in Kenora.
In accordance with her wishes, a cremation has taken place. There will be a gravesite service on Monday, May 13th, at 11:00 o’clock at Glen Eden Cemetery on North Main. Should anyone wish to donate on her behalf the Winnipeg Burn Fund or Pinecrest Home in Kenora would be good choices.
