He is survived by Jean his wife of 58 years; daughter Donna (Richard); son Murray (Pam); and grandchildren Brooke and Reece Pattyn. Marcel was born in Winnipeg, MB to parents Mary and Ignaas Pattyn; and is survived by sisters Margaret, Jeanette and Gladys and brother Julien.
Marcel worked at Canada Cement Lafarge in Fort Whyte for 33 years. He also had a potato farm and market garden for many years. He worked tirelessly to make sure he could give his customers the best potatoes and corn that he could and took great pride when they came back for more. Above all, Marcel’s greatest pride was his family.
Marcel was a lifelong curler, skipping many teams to victory in the Northern and Winnipeg Curling Clubs and at the Pembina Curling Club. His latest passion was stick curling and was half of the twosome who won the Manitoba 2011 Stick Curling Championship. Long Winnipeg winters would always find him on the ice several times each week planning his next shot. After his retirement, Marcel took up downhill skiing and golf. He loved to be outdoors, so he had hobbies for all seasons. After curling, spring could not come soon enough so he could get out his clubs and head to Buffalo Point - his favorite course.
At Marcel’s request, there will be no funeral. The gathering for Marcel has been cancelled.
The family would like to thank the staff of Boundary Trails Health Centre and Katie‘s Cottage for their kindness and compassion and the wonderful care they provided for Marcel and his family.
