Mary Louise McGuire

In the early hours of June 27, 2025, in Winnipeg, Mary Lou peacefully passed away.

Mary Lou was born on December 12, 1932, to parents Irwin and Mabel Houlahan. She grew up in Ottawa and then moved to Gatineau (Hull) where she raised her family and enjoyed working at D’Arcy Mcgee High School.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Susan Kunz, son Daniel and her two grandchildren Craig Kunz and Michelle Everton (Ryan), brother Don Houlahan (late Janet) and sister Joan Lachaine (late Claude), as well as numerous nieces and nephews from the Houlahan and McGuire families.

A special thank you to Kim Lachaine for all her help in navigating Mom’s move to Winnipeg.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Jack, daughter Marcia Anne, and brother Jack Houlahan (Janet) and the late Kenneth and Doris Houlahan.

She will be missed by her many close friends with whom she and Jack spent many happy evenings together.

Mary Lou was a kind and loving person. She had a special quality to her that drew people to her. A private family service will be held in Ottawa at a later date. Donations to her memory can be made to the CNIB, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
