Maureen Lowe, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on Monday January 11th, where she had lived for the past 2 years with dementia.

She will be forever missed and always loved and leaves to mourn; daughter Sharon (Gord), sons Ken (Maureen) and Craig; grandchildren Trent, Lee, Michael, Danielle, Chris; along with many nieces and nephews. Mum was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, George Lowe (March 21, 2020) and her parents Louis and Florence James and brother Don (Thelma) James.

Mum was born in Calgary and in her early childhood years the family moved to Winnipeg. Mum and Dad met at Sparling United Church through the Young People’s Group, where they fell in love and married in 1953. They settled down and made roots in Fort Garry and a raised their family there.

In her early years she worked at Monarch Life, later staying at home to look after the family. Once the kids were of age Mum took on a second career working at Manitoba Hydro in the library until she retired in 1991. Mom and Dad spent many winters together in Apache Junction, Arizona with close friends enjoying their retirement life.

Mum was an outgoing and fun-loving person who loved entertaining, getting together with friends and family, playing games, and travelling. She was active throughout her life playing golf, curling, and loved any kind of card game especially bridge. She loved playing games with the grandkids. She belonged to two girl’s bridge clubs and a mixed bridge club with Dad and from this they developed numerous close and lifelong friendships.

Mum loved spending time at the family cottage with dad, family, and friends. There were many laughs and countless memories. There was always room for one more unexpected guest at the lake and Mum would welcome them with open arms. Her blueberry pies and baking of all kinds were synonymous with good eating down at the lake and at family gatherings. Mum was a wonderful cook and felt at home in the kitchen. We will miss her special family meals and get togethers.

Mum (Grandma), we will miss you dearly and always have you close in our hearts. May you rest in peace now that you and Dad are together again.

A funeral service will be held at a later date.

Special thanks to the Golden Door staff for all the wonderful care and comfort Mum received during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of MB.

I’m so sorry.
Together again!! Love your mom and dad (alias; moe and joe). Maureen was always welcoming - for sure -with her beautiful smile and loving hugs, and her laughter was so great. Your mom and dads laughs just went together. I can still hear her voice, a favorite expression “Ooh George!!”” And then her giggle right afterwards.”❤️
She always was welcoming anytime she saw you, welcoming you into her home, always interested in hearing all your life updates.
It Was always comforting for me to know she was always there, right next door, to lend a hand or ear.
Maureen and George were the warmest, friendliest, fun loving people and they will Always be kept close to My Heart also.❤️
Loving hugs,
