Peacefully, in the comfort of his home and the presence of his beloved wife, Mihaly (Mike) Lukacs, passed away on February 8, 2026.
Mihaly was born in Vajdacska, Hungary on January 21, 1932. He left Hungary during the revolution in 1956 in search of a better life in Canada. Mihaly worked in the construction industry and was a life-long member of the Iron Workers union. He was blessed to have made many lasting friendships through his work and the Hungarian community.
Years later, on a trip to Hungary he met the love of his life, Jolan, and the two married in April 1967. They returned to Canada to begin their life together and were blessed with two beautiful daughters.
Mihaly enjoyed dancing, socializing, playing cards, and his favourite pastime of all, gardening. His signature rose bushes could be seen by passersby, and his garden fed friends and family alike, as he so generously shared everything he had with his loved ones.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, who centered his life around family and faith. Mihaly is lovingly remembered by his wife Jolan, his two daughters Erika (Mike) and Susan (Chad), four grandchildren; Colton (Ashley), Kristin, Kaitlyn, Connor, and great-granddaughter Brooklyn. He is predeceased by his parents Maria and Jozsef, siblings Jozsef and Elizabeth and nephews Laszlo and Jozsef.
Sincere thanks to the many physicians who supported his care; the Palliative Care Program, Partners for Home Care and their great team who supported Mihaly in the final months of his life.
