It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband and father, Neil Michael Myska, P.Eng, on March 18, 2014, at the age of 50.
Neil leaves to mourn his wife Barbara and his cherished daughters Janine and Laura; his parents Albert and Joyce; brother Grant (Suzanne) and their children Kristen and Reece; and Kent (Susie) and their children Aidan and Ethan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Carol Smith, and their children Ryan, Graeme, and Kristen, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Neil was an Engineer for the City of Winnipeg as a Transportation Planning Engineer and loved his job. Our jokes usually centered on Neil’s love for anything to do with concrete.
After graduation, Neil began employment at Dillon Engineering where he met Barbara. It was said by many to be love at first sight. After four years of dating, they married on May 19, 1990. Four years after that they had their first child, Janine and three years later they had Laura.
In 1996 Neil began working for the City of Winnipeg in what he said was his dream job. He not only loved the work itself, but made many friendships there.
Neil loved making or fixing anything. He was an accomplished woodworker, making furniture, bird houses and his latest challenge was a major kitchen renovation. He had a seemingly endless supply of knowledge and could answer any question that came his way.
He loved the outdoors cycling and skiing. One of his favourite places was his family cottage at Twin Lakes Beach.
His main love and focus was his family. Neil and his family loved spending time together camping, swimming, or just talking and watching movies.
Neil was a kind man without a mean bone in his body. Neil will forever be remembered as a warm hearted, patient, smart and loving man. He influenced everybody around him with his big heart and gentle soul.
It is impossible to put into words how much we will miss him and the hole that his passing leaves in our soul.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:00 am at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. Interment will take place this coming summer.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Neil’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
