

Richard is survived by his wife of 40 years Rosemary Wavinya Mutungi; children Doreen Mutheu Mutungi and Kevin Mutungi; brothers Major Rrt. Dominic Sila Mutungi and Mike Muthike Mutungi; sisters Anastasia Nzisa, Benedetta Kamene and Margaret Mutuku; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents William and Rose Mutungi; and sisters Veronica Kanini and Angela Nduku; and brother Alphonse Mutemi Mutungi
Born and raised in Kenya, Richard migrated to Winnipeg, Canada with his family in 1995.
In his early years, Richard worked with various organizations to help marginalized people in Kenya, especially street children. After relocating to Canada, teaching and driving became his passion He established Winncity Driving School and created a career that he treasured to the end.
Richard had a great sense of humor and often had one laughing even when they weren’t prepared to; especially family and friends. He will always be remembered for his enchanting smile.
Richard was also very committed to keeping up with Kenyan politics. He enjoyed having lively debates about Kenyan politics…he missed his calling as a political commentator. He read two Kenyan papers every morning while enjoying his traditionally brewed Kenyan tea in a sufuria.
He will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 3 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 4 at 11:00 am at Mary Mother of the Church. Interment will be held following the mass at Thomson “In the Park” Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family would like to thank Cancer Care Manitoba and the St Boniface Hospital for their help through a very difficult time.
