Robert Harold Cleland

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Bob on November 23, 2021. After a brief illness, Bob passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice, surrounded by family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Verla (nee Doble), brother Len (Merle), children Marla, Michael (Kristie), grandchildren Ana, Michelle and Cooper, and nephew Ken. He is predeceased by his parents, Isabella and Harold, and his sister, Janet.

Bob and Verla were married on November 25, 1961 and shared 60 happy years together. They lived and worked in various cities before settling permanently in Winnipeg when Marla and Michael were young. Bob and Verla enjoyed good health into their 80's and did a lot of travelling with friends after they retired.

Bob worked for many years at Manitoba Public Insurance before retiring in 1996. He maintained lasting friendships with his work buddies who, after retirement, would get together for lunch every Thursday. Bob rarely missed one of these occasions!

All who knew Bob will remember him fondly, and he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures, like spending time with his grandchildren, golfing and enjoying a good glass of scotch. He took care of all who were close to him and was always there to help, whether it was washing his neighbours' windows, or cooking turkeys and decorating for the fall supper at St. Andrew's United Church.

Cremation has taken place. At Bob's request, there will be no funeral service.

The family extends its thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre, palliative care and the Grace Hospice for their care, compassion and support in this time of Bob's need.
