Rose Mary Mark

The family is sad to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Rose was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Leonard Mark.

Mom was a very determined and disciplined woman and has survived many world-wide events in her 106 years. As a young woman she wanted to be a nurse, but her family thought she was too small to take on such a career. At a time when jobs were scarce, mom worked as a maid for a wealthy family which led her to learning how to bake because her employer asked her to bake two peach pies for the ladies who were coming in for tea the next afternoon. Mom’s baking was great. Eventually, mom got a job at Sun Alliance and London Insurance Company. When government automobile insurance was brought into Manitoba, some insurance companies pulled out of the province. However, mom’s boss at Sun Alliance called his friend Dan Milne at Milnco Insurance to ask if they were looking for any employees as he thought mom would be a good candidate to work for him. Mom was not only hired by Milnco at the age of 57, mom worked at Milnco for 27 years. Mom was semi-retired for a few years and fully retired at age 84 but only to “give the kids a chance”. Mom lived independently at Shalom Gardens Housing Co-op for 20 years where she made many friends. Mom moved to Golden Door Geriatric Centre where she was cared for the past two years.

Mom leaves to morn her children Leonard Mark (JoAnn) of Kenora ON, Kathleen Fawley, Eileen Pavey (Wayne) of Lethbridge AB, Marleen Thompson (Gary), her Grandchildren, Susan, Brian (Arifa) and David (Deb) Mark, David (Deb) and Robert Fawley, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She loved us and we loved her back. She was an amazing person.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service. The family will gather at a later to date to celebrate the life of this wonderful woman.
