Shelagh Willcock, born February 2, 1959, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was a beloved spouse of Paul Goodson; cherished daughter of Elizabeth Willcock and the late David Willcock; much loved sister of Michael, John & Peter Willcock & Mary-Kay Smith, sister-in-law of Geraldine Willcock, Ginny Brown, Dolfi Havlovic, Enos Comeau, Lynn Willcock, & Peter & Robert Goodson, & daughter-in-law of Terry & Gloria Goodson. She was an adored and doting aunt of Michael, Ashley, Evan, Mimi, John & Elizabeth Willcock, Andrew Smith & Shelagh Roberts, each of whom will have special memories of her.
Shelagh was a lover of all things great & small. She was an accomplished equestrian, judge & groom & happiest around horses, dogs & people, probably in that order. She spent many happy hours in the saddle & with her favorite animal, Pearl, a beautiful Anglo-Arab. Her interests in horses led her to serve, for a time as the director of the Manitoba Horse Council. She rescued & fostered more dogs than she ought to have, even in her final illness, unwilling to part with those she had nursed back to health until they were well & truly cared for, through Hull’s Haven Border Collie Rescue. She leaves Eevie, a “genius”, Amigo and Nessa at home.
Shelagh was a lifelong student of fine art. She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Manitoba & was a talented artist & sculptor. She spent countless hours at & for some time was a fundraiser for the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
She cared deeply for others & gave readily of her talents & love. For many years she served as a director & secretary of the Maitland B. Steinkopf Residence , an independent living facility for adults with mental challenges.
Shelagh travelled extensively & particulary loved Scotland & France but in her last years she found happiness here at home, with Paul, her family & his. We will sorely miss her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Maitland B. Steinkopf Residence, Suite 9-213 St. Mary’s Rd., Winnipeg MB. R2H 1J2 or to St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Fund, 409 Tache, Winnipeg MB. R2H 2A6.
Memorial Service was held Wednesday, March 27th at 7:00 PM, with Shelagh’s cousin Rev. Deacon John Walsh presiding at Thomson “In the Park” 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg MB.
