Waldo passed away the morning of Thursday, April 10th, at Bethania Personal Care Home at the age of 94.
Waldo was born in Kalinova South Russia and immigrated to Canada at the age of 5. The family first settled in the Qu’Appelle Valley, Sask. and then eventually made their way to Niverville, MB.
1941 was an eventful year for Waldo. His dad unexpectedly passed away at a young age. Shortly after that, Waldo became baptized upon confession of his faith and then he left for alternate service during the war. Upon his return home he accepted the responsibility of taking care of the young Fast family. Dad was always a hard worker and he farmed the land and sacrificed his dream of education so his siblings could continue theirs. He was however able to complete his grade 12 education at MBCI at the age of 29.
Shortly after meeting and marrying Olga Foth in 1952, they moved to Winnipeg. There Waldo began to work at Swifts. They were blessed with 4 children and family was a priority. There were many day trips on Sundays following church. Up until our Mothers passing the entire family met almost weekly for Sunday lunch. A tradition we will always cherish.
His gift was numbers and he prepared taxes and did accounting in the evenings. After Swifts closed their doors Waldo worked at Revenue Canada until his retirement at the age of 73.
As family we will remember our dad as a wonderful christian man, totally devoted to His Lord and Saviour. He was a very honest, humble, and sacrificial man who always put the needs of others before his.
The Fast brothers were known for their competitive spirit and athletic abilities. He enjoyed hearing about his grandchildren's teams and was always interested in how they were doing. He loved games like Dominos, chess and rook. He also will be remembered for his love of gardening which he was able to do till he was 89 years old.
Waldo leaves to cherish his memory his sons Waldo(Edith), and their children Andrew(Krista), Mark, Roslynn Ballard(Paul); Bernie(Susie),and their children Lloyd(Hildie)Peters, Arlie(Eva)Peters; Rick (Joanne), and their children Michael and David; Daughter Martha Wiebe(Pete), and their children Kevin(Angela), Richard(Stephanie), and Angela Diboll(Zack) and 14 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by 2 brothers Alec(Emily), Edward(Helena) ,one sister Kathie Wiebe(Neil), and 1 sister-in-law Adelheid Fast.
Waldo was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Olga (2002), his brothers Ike, Rudy and Arthur, and sister Katie in childhood.
Believing in the eternal live that awaits us, he was looking forward to see family again, and be re-united with Olga, whom he loved so dearly. Till we meet again Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. We love you and you have been a great example to us all.
“Bless the Lord, oh my soul, and all that is within me, bless His Holy name. Bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not all his benefits.” Yes, God has been good to me and I have great reason to praise God, to bless Him, and give thanks for his goodness.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 21st at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Interment to follow at Mennonite Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Family Life Network.
