With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William Douglas Mc Dowell on February 5, 2012 at Deer Lodge Center.
Dad will be truly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Clara and their three children; Ken (Rosemary), Carol (Dar) and Rod (Kathy). He will also be greatly missed by his five grandchildren; Brett, Kristine, Nikki, Kimberly, Cameron and his great-granddaughter, Zola. Dad also leaves behind his adopted family; John, Margaret, Jayne, Todd, Scott Percival and many other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Robert, Elizabeth and only brother, Bob.
Born in Winnipeg on March 8, 1925, he joined the Canadian Forces at age seventeen. Dad was very proud of his time served in the Forces and remained a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. On February 26th, 1949, mom and dad were married and in 1953 moved to St. Vital where they raised their family. Dad spent 37 years working for Imperial Oil, retiring at age 62. Family, home life and friends were the centre of Dad’s world with the jewels being his grandchildren and great granddaughter.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 11 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
We would especially like to thank Dr. Roy Smith for the many years of care and all the staff at Deer Lodge Center T6 for their loving care and comfort provided to Dad in the last six months.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Deer Lodge Center (DLC) Foundation at 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg.
