Anita Jane McGowan

Born on July 22, 1942, she was the only child of the late Willard Ambrose Hilton and Jane Pope Hilton of Walkertown, NC. She graduated from Walkertown High School in 1960. She was also a life-time member of Love’s United Methodist Church in Walkertown. Over the course of her life, she worked as a cosmetologist, a personal care assistant, and eventually retired from Sears Telecommunication Center in Greensboro, NC. It was her role as a caregiver that brought her the most joy. She often spoke of her former patients, and frequently cared for family members during times of illness- especially her uncles, Walter and Rudy Hilton.

She is survived by her two children and grandson. Her daughter and son-in-law, Laura McGowan Murray and Robert Meredith Murray, reside in Julian, NC. Her son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, James Alton McGowan, III, Jennifer Ann (Richards) McGowan, and John Alton McGowan, reside in Hillsborough, NC.

On Saturday, January 10, funeral services will be held at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home, located 2951 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Following a private graveside ceremony at Gardens of Memory, the family will receive guests in the Fellowship Hall of Love’s United Methodist Church, 3020 Main Street, Walkertown, NC, at 1:00 p.m.
