Born on December 19, 1948, in Winston-Salem, NC, Carol was the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Shoaf. She graduated from Parkland High School in 1967 and went on to attend Appalachian State University in Boone. Her early career began at Ed Kelly’s Appliances in Winston-Salem. After marrying her former husband, Tyron Baker of King, together they opened their own appliance store, King Appliances in King, NC. Later she relocated and reimagined the business as King Video and Tanning, which she owned and operated until her retirement.
Carol’s life was marked by warmth, generosity, hard work and a deep love for those around her. She will be remembered for her radiant smile and kind heart—qualities that endeared her to everyone who knew her. Carol cherished time with family and friends. She especially loved hosting Christmas gatherings at her home, organizing family beach trips, enjoying time at her Orlando timeshare, and camping with close friends.
She is survived by two brothers: Kenneth Shoaf (Kim) of High Point and Mark Shoaf (Cindy) of Winston-Salem; a sister, Patricia Cox of Sandy Ridge; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and cousins. Carol also leaves behind her best friend and partner, Janet Ring of Pfafftown. She was a mom, grandma and great-grandma to Janet's daughter, Angela Ensley (Mark) of Pilot Mountain; two granddaughters, Savannah Fowler (Dalton) of Danbury and Khloe Nickelston of Pilot Mountain; great-grandchildren, Daxton and Stella Fowler; and a beloved dog, Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Richard Cox.
Carol's legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love—a legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known and loved her. She will be deeply missed.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on October 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park..
