In 1979, Joy met her husband, David Benson, and they began a loving relationship that led to their marriage in 1983. Together, they had a son, Danny, to whom Joy devoted her life and time as a stay-at-home mom.
Joy had a passion for gardening. She enjoyed looking at the various birds in her yard at the feeders she had set out. She loved all animals, especially elephants. Joy was renowned for her baking and cooking skills. Her family will particularly miss her leftover Thanksgiving pie.
Despite fighting cancer for over 30 years, Joy's strength and resilience shone through, leaving a lasting legacy for her family and friends.
Joy leaves behind her husband, David Benson; son, Daniel Benson; siblings, Frank Vargo and Beverly (Keith) Stocker; nieces, Brandi (Eric) Stettler, Beth (Dana) Brockman, Rechel (William) Senger, Kate (Zach) Miller, and Kelsey Stocker; and many other loved ones and friends.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on December 5, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Vogler Funeral & Cremations at Forsyth Memorial Park.
In honor of Joy, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to your local humane society.
