Margaret Wall Snell, 81, of Grand Blanc, Michigan passed away suddenly but peacefully on Tuesday, October 5 in hospital. She was surrounded by those most dear and is forever embraced within their hearts.
She was the fourth of five children born to Buford and Margaret Wall in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 13, 1939. A southern lady, she descended from a long line of early Americans who had settled in the region – many within proximity of Pilot Mountain. It seems she knew or was related to almost everyone, and this land and its people were always “home.”
Margaret graduated from Walkertown High School in 1958. She worked at Western Electric before following her husband’s career assignments throughout the US and England. She became a working artist and art instructor, and her summer art fairs remain a special memory for the entire family. She was a member of Paint and Palette, the Grand Blanc Arts Guild and the Greater Flint Arts Council for many years; watercolor and oil painting brought her great joy, and she won numerous awards for her work.
Writing poetry, arts and crafts, tea parties and flower gardens were a few of her favorite things, and she was forever cultivating beauty in her midst. But what she loved most of all was her family and time together – providing delicious meals, planning unique activities, and creating a respite from the world. For the past 23 years this included cherished summers “up north” at The Sandbox along the shores of Lake Huron … sketching on the patio, painting rocks, exploring lighthouses and games of all sorts. Tender-hearted and sentimental, while at times also playfully mischievous and feisty, she proudly held three titles: WIFE, MOM, and MIMIE … and she rocked them all!
Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Walter Snell; daughters Shawn Snell and Susan Allen; granddaughters Caroline Dulemba (Hayden Wier), Alexandra Dulemba, Victoria Dulemba, Emily Allen and Stephanie Allen; great-grandson Wyatt Wier; sister Frances Conrad; and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Faye Spainhour, and brothers Bill and Larry Wall among others greatly loved.
Cremation services were provided by Sharp Funeral Home in Grand Blanc, Michigan with subsequent inurnment at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem.
A Memorial Service will be joyfully held with family and friends on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Forsythe Memorial Mausoleum, with a Reception to follow in the Vogler Visitation Room. All are welcome! Margaret was strong in faith throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, 8710 Meadowbrook Drive, Tobaccoville, NC 27050.
