Robert Eugene Greene

Robert Eugene Greene, 76, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 2, 1950, in Bakersville, North Carolina, Rob lived a life defined by integrity, leadership, devotion, and deep love for those closest to him.

Rob graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics and was a Stonier Graduate of Banking at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey. He built an extraordinary career spanning more than 40 years with BB&T, where he served in several leadership roles, ultimately becoming a Senior Executive and President of BB&T Corporation. Rob was deeply committed to his community and generously gave his time and expertise to numerous organizations. He served as Chairman of the North Carolina Newcomen Society, and served on the Board of Directors for multiple organizations including United Way of Forsyth County, Hospice Foundation of Winston-Salem, Wake Forest University Health Science, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Idealliance, and Winston-Salem Foundation, as well as the Board of Trustees for Wake Forest University, and Advisory Council for North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.

Beyond every title and accomplishment, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He cherished traveling, spending weekends at the lake, attending his grandchildren's many activities, and throwing the ball with his adored labrador, Birdie. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Rob brought unwavering support, steadfast guidance, laughter, and warmth into the lives of his family. His love was generous and unconditional — the kind that reminded you exactly who you were and how deeply you were cared for.

Rob was preceded in death by many other loved ones and dear friends who welcomed him home. He is survived by his wife, Kandra Greene; his children, Jason Greene and wife Lauren Greene of Denver, Colorado; Justin Greene and wife Soumatra Greene of Las Vegas, Nevada; Megan Greene Newbauer and husband Jackson Newbauer of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and his four beloved grandchildren Avery Kate Greene, Thomas Wyatt Newbauer, Robert Bryce Greene, and Hudson Greene Newbauer.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in honor of Rob’s lifelong commitment to community service and his enduring legacy of dedication to others.
