A ladies’ man, misunderstood genius, and cigarette enthusiast, you could always find Robert cursing the Carolina Panthers on Sundays or building his latest invention only he could understand, his brilliant mind fueled only by coffee and nicotine. Robert attended N.C. State University where he studied engineering for a short time before joining the Army where he served his country. After the Army, Robert became a jack of all trades and devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge, and leaving a trail of cigarette ashes and his latest invention drawings scattered throughout the house. Robert also loved to share his wisdom, some of it amazing, some of it terrifying, and some of it inappropriate. But his loved ones all agree he loved cigarettes and was one of the smartest men they’d ever met.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Sr. and Stella Paschal, brothers Lawrence Jr. (Sylvia) Paschal, and Charles (Sarah) Paschal. He is survived by his brother Donald (Ellen) Paschal, 4 children Alan (Elizabeth) Paschal, Brian (Serena) Paschal, Melanie (Jared) Sizemore, and Thomas Paschal, grandchildren Roy Paschal, Luke Paschal, Will Paschal, Katie Paschal, Everette Paschal, Reagan Sizemore, and Evelyn Murphy, and many special nephews.
The family would like to give a thank you to Robert’s special longtime friends Errol, Jerri, and Matthew Long and Andy Pardue who embraced Robert’s inappropriate nicknames for them over the years and provided him with many strawberry milkshakes when his children weren’t available to feed his habit. Also, a very special thanks to the nurses at Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassionate care. Any available team members of the Carolina Panthers are invited to his graveside at the conclusion of the service to let Robert down one last time.
A graveside celebration of Robert’s life will be held October 25, 2025 at 11:00 am at Forsyth Memorial Park. Donations to the Wounded Warrior Project may be made in his honor in lieu of flowers.
