

Born on July 9, 1945, in Lexington, North Carolina, Gerald dedicated his early life to service. He bravely served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant. His military experience instilled in him a lifelong commitment to duty, honor, and country.
Following his service, Gerald settled in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he embarked on a long and successful career. He worked as a businessman at both McLean Trucking and Wachovia Bank, where his dedication and integrity were highly valued.
Gerald was a member and Past Master at Old Town Lodge #751. He was also a member of Winter Garden Lodge #165. His Masonic brothers will remember him for his wisdom, steadfast integrity, and mentorship of younger members.
Gerald was the beloved husband of Wanda McLeod Whitlock for 56 wonderful years and a loving father to Christie (Rudy) and Michael (Kristie). Gerald found his greatest joy in his family, especially his cherished grandchildren: Kaylin and Abbey (Christie), and Peyton and Pierce (Michael). Known for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and his remarkable ability to fix anything, Gerald was also an active volunteer in his community.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Whitlock Jr. and Arteal Black Whitlock, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Marie Whitlock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association.
A committal service will be held at Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513, on October 24, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Military honors will also be conducted at the same location and time.
