Christine and family.. I am so very sorry to hear about Mike's passing.  Mike and I were classmates at Nativity BVM 
in Ozone Park, NY  starting 60 years ago.   Last year we lost another classmate way too soon.   I pray that God will give you all peace and comfort in the coming days, weeks and forward as you all go on without Mike.  My heart breaks for all of you.  Mike was one of the good guys. Your thoughtful and gregarious personality and big, hearty laugh was unmatched.  You were a lovable rascal till the end. I will miss you so very much!

I cant believe I have to write this. As sad as this time is I'd like to remember the good times. I'll always cherish visiting your house as a child in Ohio. Playing Nintendo with my cousins and running around with Roxy. Your calls while I was  recovering from cancer always meant a lot and helped keep my head clear. Thank you for that. And I'll miss your cruise and disney adivce while planning our Orlando vacations. You really made a difference to my family on our first Disney  trip which my family and I are very grateful for.

I'll miss your calls talking about life, fatherhood and the yankees.

It’s hard to know where to start I can’t put into words how much you’ll be missed . The world has lost a great Man , but heaven gained an angel. you’ve always put smile on everyone’s face so in these sad times I will try to only think about the good times.

My dear friend, Michael…how I miss you already. You were always there with great advice, moral support, and making me laugh. We shared so many years of memories, from the neighborhood, to some great years at Prudential, until today, we were family.  You did it my friend, left a beautiful legacy of family, friends, love, laughter and respect….just look at all these beautiful tributes! You earned them. ..even though you left me in the conference room at Pru, forgetting I was there, and going to pick up your kids from school! I will laugh about that forever.  Rest peacefully Mike. You will never be forgotten., and Christine, Joey  and Coco will never be alone. Sincerest condolences to the DeRienzo family.

Sadly, we didn't have the opportunity to get to know Mike and Christine very well.  We were able to play several rounds of one of his  favorite card games, 5 Crowns.  Win or lose, Mike always made the game a lot more fun.  He shared many of his stories but was always interested in what others had to say.

Once you met Mike, you became his friend.  It was not unusual to get a simple "how are you doing" text from him.  

We will miss him greatly and our hearts go our to Chritiene, Joey and all of Mike's family.

Im so sorry for your loss Chris and Joey & family. Michael and I went to grammar Catholic School together. I
was the first girl that he asked to go out with. We were like 12 years old.  He was shy n nervous and I said OK. The next day he was walking down the block throwing the baseball up im the air and catching  it. He said “Donna I cant go out with you I need to play baseball” I said Ok lol. He would always have the nuns running after him chasing him around the classroom screaming “Mr. DeReienzo “!!! We all laugh like crazy! I met Mike and Christine over the phone.  Mike had a huge personality. When we finally met in person, he treated me like we were family, and he was very appreciative for my help in his time of need. Mike always ask me about my children and grandchildren. Mike you was an extraordinary man, with faith and love. I will miss your laugh and you as a wonderful human. Thank you for all that you did, your words of encouragement especially after I loss my job due to the pandemic. May you rest in paradise💜 🕊️🥲

As a widow myself, I completely understand, this loss.
Michael made me laugh, he was sweet, candid in our phone conversations.   I am saddened that our plans to  meet in person will never take place.  

When I first reached out to him after the DNA results that we were family, siblings, he was kind, welcoming, I was relieved by his acceptance.   

We will meet, as we are all in different journeys in our individual lives, yet our destination is the same, so I will look forward to our meeting. 
God rest your soul, you will be honored in our memory, and love for you will be eternal.

I love you Mikey! Thanks for being such a huge part of my life all these years. You always gave us 100% of you, your kindness, wisdom, humor and everlasting love. Rest in heaven my friend. I already miss you. Until we meet again. 

My condolences to Christine and Joey, and the whole DeRienzo family.  Mike was an awesome brother-in-law to me, and such a good friend and brother to my husband.  They had an incredible relationship even though they were 10 years apart in age.  Mike had such a big personality and I always admired his ability to make everyone smile and especially his cute little sayings and songs he’d say to the little ones!  Mike, you will be sorely missed.  The world  lost a shining star.  

I write this with the heaviest heart… How much I will miss our conversation and texting back and forth about football, baseball, betting Sunday football, hoping Chris wouldn't catch us, sorry Chris. Planning future visits and vacations.  Talking about places and things we were going to experience together.  Mike you were a great listener and always so easy to talk to.  You made people feel better and always had such encouraging words.  You will be greatly missed, my brother.  I know Heaven is sure to be a happier place and this world that much sadder.  
I know you will definitely take care of our parents in heaven.  Till we meet again..   


As a young man, I had the great opportunity to cross paths and gain a great connection with Mike and his family. At the time I did not know; but as a young man now, I see what his great personality and mentorship has done for my life. He set the standard in my life for what a great leader, family man and successful entrepreneur could be. I’ll never forget how in any room Mike would walk in to everyone would immediately light up. He may not be living in flesh with us anymore, but I know he will continue to live through so many of us. I’ll miss you and will always have a place for you in my heart. Great father, friend, coach and mentor. RIP Mike 


I used to see Mr. DeRienzo a lot when I would hang out with Joe. He was incredibly funny and a very caring man. It’s not too often that one of the highlights of going to your friends is being able to talk to their dad, but I always looked forward to the stories and jokes he would tell us. I had briefly talked on the phone with Mr. DeRienzo while his family was visiting Ohio this year and we had talked about how I need to visit Florida sometime soon. Though he sadly will not be there the next time I visit, I look forward to, some day, hearing more of his stories and to sharing many more laughs. My heart is with the entire DeRienzo family.

Mike was a childhood friend from Ozone Park. We went to John Adams HS. But we got most our education at Aqueduct. We lost contact while I was in the military. We found each other later on thru Facebook. We saw each about 5 years ago when Mike visited New York. We had a great breakfast at the bagel place on Crossway Blvd. That afternoon we met a Belmont for a little picnic. I got to meet Joey and Christian. We had a great time, a lot of old story and brought back many memories. May God open the gates to heaven for Mike. Mike I loved like a brother. Until me meet again. God bless to you and your family. Christine I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Mike. What a wonderful man he was. I was so happy for you on your wedding day, and have watched your family with such adoration all these years. Mike, you were like a brother to me. What great memories I have with you. All the crazy things we did back in the 70s & 80s. Being each others best man in the 90s. Never a dull moment with you. You were a great father raising 4 beautiful children. You were a great husband to Christine who I know was the love of your life. You guys were perfect together. I know you will be watching over her and Joey and the rest of your family from above. I’m going to miss our hours long conversations and I am going to miss you. I don’t know anybody else who impacted so many people in such a positive way. You were the one people always gravitated to and you made everyone feel so welcome, like they were an instant friend or family. You had a larger than life personality that people loved you for. I know I did and always will. You are going to be missed so much but will never be forgotten.

Once in awhile someone walks into your life and you are made better because of them. Mike’s personality, zest for life and humor would walk into the room before his body.  His storytelling, laughter and jokes would have you laughing your pants off.  His love for his family was admirable and there wasn’t a thing he wouldn’t do for them. We would text often and had long conversations on the phone reminiscing about old times driving our daughter back and forth to college. 
Mike, you will be deeply missed. I know your with son, parents and Jesus! You are young again, healthy and in no more pain. 
We ache for your presence, but we know we will see you again.

I remember all our car rides and our talks and through you, Chris, I know Mike. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend and I hope all your wonderful memories give you some peace. I know it is difficult, my friend, and I am here if you need someone to talk to.

Mike D always lived life to the limit, and those close to him got to share the ride.  He elevated all he associated with.  If one was loyal to Mike he would move any obstacle he found unfair.  I know because he did it for me, and more than once
He made my life better.  I loved Mike dearly and will NEVER forget him (who could?!), and will always miss knowing he was somewhere helping someone.  

Dear Christine, I wish you peace to bring you comfort, courage to help you face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your heart. My prayers are with you and your family. 

My heart breaks for my friend Christine and her family. Mike was a great guy. Funny! Loving! Intelligent and kind! I’ll always remember his smile and the night we stood together watching the fireworks at Epcot. All of these Brazilian kids were there with their tour group and they wanted Mike and I to sit down so they could see. Mike and I laughed and said, yeah right! All of these people are going to stand up with the first bang, so we just stood together and then laughed when they all stood up. Lol….  Sending my love and a big hug to you all. Gone too soon

I will miss the dinners and drinks, and Oh the stories Mike could tell.  Mike was a “true” good guy and just would light up a room with his larger than life personality.  Once Mike met you, you were family.  We are all better people having known him.  Rest in peace, my brother.

Memories of Mike will be with me for a lifetime…it was hard not to love Mike instantly.  We met when Joe and Sarah started dating in high school years ago.  Mike immediately started introducing me to everyone as his future in-law.  I was initially taken aback, but then I realized, this was Mike…I was now part of the family!  Flash forward seven plus years and I can look back and be incredibly grateful for the bonus family that we have gained.  Mike was a second father to our daughter Sarah and will be missed tremendously.  He was a man full of love and devotion to his family.  He will be missed beyond measure….and the stories…oh the stories!  We love you Christine, Joe, Michael, and Andrea and will be here for you always.  We wish we could take away this pain, but we promise to help you honor Mike’s memories.  He was so incredibly proud of his family.

Years ago, Mike and 2 managers came to the Albany, NY Prudential territory. Mike was the most caring and thoughtful manager. He was extremely generous and made sure I would survive my first few years of my career. Almost 30 years later, I am still with Prudential, thanks to Mikey D! Gonna miss you my friend!

I was lucky enough to work with Mike periodically here in Florida. We shared similar experiences starting our careers in New York with Prudential years ago.
Full of life, always willing to talk and would offer assistance to coworkers when they asked.
Two Italians relating to Faith, Family and Food. He'll be missed here but things are going to get more exciting up there.

Mike was always so kind to me and loved everyone in our family.  Sending lots of love to the entire Derienzo family.


My heart aches for you and Joe. I will always remember that you would post pictures of the three of you on your way to church.  What a comfort to know that Michael is with the Lord now.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved son, Matt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine DeRienzo; sons, Mike A. DeRienzo (Debbie) and Joe DeRienzo, daughter, Andrea Todd (Greg); grandchildren, Emily, John, Eleanor, Lauren and Paul; brothers, Richard (Donna) and Joe (Joan); sisters, Linda and Lisa; Step-mother, Diane and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
