Nicole Montas was born on July 28, 1931 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti as the first born child of Leon and Anne Montas. In later years the family was blessed with a son Eddie, who was Nicole’s cherished brother and they grew up with an unbreakable bond until he passed away in 1971.
Nicole was a stunning attractive young girl and continued to blossom as a gorgeous woman. Her beauty however was not limited to her physical attractiveness. Nicole Montas (from childhood through her entire life) had an innate charisma about her, which was adorned with her affectionate and warm nature. She was the leader with the positive attitude, never afraid to take charge or a new challenge. Nicole was the relative and friend that everyone described as extremely fun, energetic full-of life and charming, the one you called upon and counted on to make sure all arrangements for an event would be taken care of and run smoothly. Nicole was well-rounded and had many talents. She accomplished quite well all that she set out to do. She owned an air of independence and innovation ahead of other women of her generation. If she chose to style one’s coiffure it was above and beyond regal. Her culinary talent for fine cuisine was well known by those who have eaten Nicole’s meals and delicacies. All of this was done with class and elegance. However, her most featured calling was her choice to focus on her flair for fashion as a dressmaker. Nicole’s keen and distinguished elegant flair for fashion since a young age was unmatchable. Her highly acclaimed haute couture was displayed in the many wedding dresses (including her two daughter’s) and bridesmaid’s dresses designed and sewn by Nicole. Nicole’s fashion expertise was a trait that she did not have to learn, it appeared she was born with an innate eye for fashion and style. This was also portrayed in those distinct dresses that she single-handedly embroidered.
In 1947 a dashing young man, Raymond Leroy’s eyes fell upon the beautiful Nicole. They fell in love and married, and soon after were blessed with four children Monique, Raymond, Philippe and Micheline respectively.
Nicole being the go-getter that she was, decided to imigrate to the United States to offer more opportunities for her family. Nicole the ambitious and diligent young woman moved to New York, her husband and children followed soon after. The family resided in Rosedale, NY for many years.
As time went on Nicole never lost her zest for life, always having company and hosting dinner parties while displaying her extraordinary culinary talents. At the same time Nicole continued to expand her talent and was well known for her dressmaking skills.
Nicole continued to add enjoyable moments to the lives of others by simply always being a joyful spirited human being, full of life, love and laughter. Nicole always found the time to be of assistance to others. It was always Nicole that would volunteer to make the dress, cook the dish, organize the party for everyone, and she always did a phenomenal job.
