It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teddy D. Shafer with family by his side on Thursday, May 22, 2014, in Windermere, Fla. Teddy D. was born in Eyers Grove, one of three children to Lunias Virgil (L.V.) and Mildred Shafer. As a young man he enlisted in the United States Air Force to support the Korean War.
Later he moved to Levittown, where he became a successful insurance agent for 40 years with State Farm Insurance Company. Upon retirement, Linda and Ted toured the country in their motor home before buying a winter home in Windermere, Fla., to be closer to their family.
He was an extremely dedicated family man, deeply in love with his wife, admired by his son, and adored by his grandchildren. He loved spending any time he could with his grandchildren, whether fishing or just driving them to their after-school activities. He was also very active and a big believer in eating healthy and exercised regularly to keep the body and mind strong.
Teddy D. was known for his constant sense of humor, always sharing his wisdom, and ongoing willingness to help others. We will always remember
him by his sparkling blue eyes, mischievous smile, and ear-to-ear grin that lit up a room. An incredibly strong, wise, and thoughtful man who provided unconditional love and support at all times. He will be missed dearly.
He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Linda Shafer, his son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Jane, and three grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, and Caelin. He will also be missed by his caring sister, Betty, stepmother, Millie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted was predeceased by his daughter, Margot, and brother, Loel.
A private service will be held for family and close friends at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org can be made and would be gratefully appreciated.
