Edward C. Neumyer was born April 6th, 1932, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Clayton and Mary Neumyer. He was raised in nearby town of Lamoyne with his older cousin Thelma, who he thought of as an older sister. In 1949, he and his parents moved to Winter Haven due to his father’s health. Ed was a graduate of Winter Haven High School class of 1951. While at Winter Haven, Ed played baseball, and basketball for the Blue Devils and when time permitted, he was on the tennis courts in Winter Haven. He graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida with a degree in Physical Education. Later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and received training as a Lab Technician. After the passing of his father, Ed received a Honorable Discharge and returned to Winter Haven.
Upon returning to Winter Haven, Ed took a job at UF Research and Education Center in Lake Alfred (Experiment Station) and continue to work until he began his teaching career at Wahneta Elementary. He later transferred to Inwood Elementary. Ed had classroom experience but most of his career was in Physical Education where he could take the love of sports and share with children. To this day many adults recall how they wanted to hurry to school as they knew a kickball game would soon start along with many outdoor activities! All this before the first bell rang for class. Dad believed all should participate in athletics no matter the ability to win or lose, but to always have good sportsmanship and to enjoy the game!
Ed moved his family to Haines City in 1985 and retired from full time teaching in 1987. He worked for a few years with Adult Education where he would plan activities for nursing homes in the local area. After full retirement, he enjoyed playing senior softball, working in the yard, and tinkering with his Rambler but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Ed and Anne were married for 63 years and were always together. They worked hard and truly believed in family values. Ed is survived by his wife, Anne Neumyer and his three adult children, Charles Neumyer (Tina) of Colorado, Ben Neumyer (Susan) Haines City, and daughter Beth Neumyer Wiles (Pat) Winter Haven, Florida.
Dad will be greatly missed but always stressed being true to your work, working hard, play fair, honesty, and have a good time win or lose!
