Elizabeth was born on March 20, 1941 in Lindale, Georgia to Gideon and Ethel May Rogers (nee Smith). She grew up in New Hampshire and was a 1959 graduate of Bristol High School. She attended Pierce College in Concord, NH and was awarded a medical secretarial diploma in 1961. She went on to graduate from Laconia Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 and became a registered nurse. In 1974, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine.
Mrs. Foss had a heart and passion for the elderly and dedicated the majority of her 30+ nursing career to serving residents in the long term care facilities where she worked.
She was a devoted wife and supported her husband throughout his ministerial career. Her husband has said that she was his great inspiration. As a pastor’s wife, she enjoyed partnering with him to serve the congregation and especially delighted in working with the women of the church with special projects and charities. This role gave her many opportunities to entertain parishioners by hosting intimate dinners as well as elaborate Christmas parties for the entire church. She loved the holidays and enjoyed decorating for every season. She was a wonderful baker and had a passion and gift for sewing. She enjoyed reading, movies, sunsets and trips to the ocean. She was captivated by lighthouses and enjoyed visiting several across New England. She loved all things pretty and enjoyed collecting tea cups and angels. She had a lifelong love for dogs and enjoyed the companionship of many throughout her years. Elizabeth was loyal and generous and a fierce protector of her family whom she loved so much. She will be greatly missed. We can find solace in knowing that she is reunited with her soulmate and is in the presence of her Lord, Jesus. She was a member of First Christian Church in Winter Haven. Her memorial service will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Winter Haven on Thursday, October 27th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Humane Society of Polk County, 3195 Dundee Rd, Winter Haven, FL 33881 or to the Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales, Florida.
