Joel Edward Kimzey Sr.

WINTER HAVEN - Joel Edward Kimzey, Sr., 87, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away February 9, 2018. Joel was born on June 13, 1930 in Swink, Oklahoma, to the late Odis Clifton Kimzey and Bessie Lee Bridges.

He served as a medic in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He received the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement.

In 1958, he was married to Glenna Lucille Wade in Largo, Florida.

He is survived by his wife and their children: Joel Kimzey, Jr. (Angela), Judy Cason (Robert Roach), Teresa Burgon (Scott) and Kathy Atkins (Robert) and grandchildren Jarelle Petrides (Peter), Jasmine Hansen (Joshua), Jessie Moss, Chase and Caitlyn Cason, Jay Burgon (Linda), Christie Sowby (Robert), Lana and Andrew Burgon, Joanna McGetrick (John), Kayli and Matthew Atkins, great grandchildren, Jordan Atkins, Coraline and John McGetrick III, Raquel and Asher Burgon, and Eveline Sowby. Joel is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Justin Joel Kimzey.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
