I was very young  when I came into the care of Gene and Karleene Boyd as a foster child, about 4 years old and stayed till almost turning 10. I am very sad to hear that such a caring and wonderful person that taught me so much about life and what it has to offer has passed. Poppy(as I referred to him) used to pick me up from a day care center called “Tiny Town” and we used to go to the closest McDonalds and get an ice cream cone, which I was required to finish before getting out of the car. Otherwise we would both be in trouble.  I used to tease him because he would put ketchup on his eggs which I thought was gross! I could never get bored with his ridiculous jokes and cat naps he always made a way to fit into his day.  Being new to the Foster care system I couldn’t have asked for a better family and specifically Grandfather as I always felt loved and appreciated even if it was a temporary home.  I believe he lived a wonderful life and I trust that Gene Boyd did not pass away, he passed through those pearly white gates and onto a beautiful place.  

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers during this time of loss.  We are saddened at the passing of such a dear man and friend, but we are glad that he has obtained that promise of rest and eternal peace and joy.  He didn't just leave on Moday morning, but he arrived in that land that he journeyed toward for so many years.  We look forward to the time that our journey will end and we can be reunited again.  Brother Gene will be missed in our hearts, but we have great memories of him to carry with us.  He was such an encourager to each of us and he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone.   He was one of the most uplifting and godly men that we have known and it has been our great pleasure to have him as our friend.  Gene loved God, his family, his friends and his church and we look forward to the day that we can once again be with our friend. God bless each one of you.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Boyd, he is survived by his Son & Daughter in law Terry and Shelly Boyd, Son & Daughter in law Tony and Marsha Boyd all of Winter Haven, Brothers Quinton of  Tavares FL, Thomas of Crystal River, FL Sister Agnes McTeer of Haines City, 5 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren
