Dave was born on June 1, 1955, in Munich, Germany. A proud graduate of West Point, he served his country with honor in the U.S. Army for ten years. After his military service, he continued his education, earning a master’s degree from Villanova University. His professional career included work as a project manager in Aerospace Military Systems for General Electric, as well as with Lockheed Martin.
On June 10, 1977, Dave married the love of his life, Evangeline “Lynn” Calkin. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and service. Dave is survived by Lynn, their three children: Warren David Calkin III (Jennifer), Kimberly Quinter (Jeremy), and Joseph Calkin (Madeline); and their cherished grandchildren: Auston, Reagan, Cade, I’zaya, Robbie, Carys, Tadhg, and Matteo. He also leaves behind his devoted mother, Janice Gaye Todd; his sister, Deta Calkin; his brother, Brant Calkin (Cynthia); many nieces and nephews; and his lifelong West Point brothers.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Warren David Calkin Sr., and his step-grandson, Matthew Stevens.
Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Dave was a man of many passions. He loved fishing, was an avid New York Yankees fan, and even played semi-pro volleyball after his time in the Army. He found great joy in coaching his kids’ soccer and basketball teams and in supporting Lynn’s coaching endeavors at Oviedo High School. A devoted Christian, Dave deeply valued his faith and fellowship, participating in Bible studies and attending St. Luke’s in Oviedo before later becoming part of the Grace Lutheran community in Winter Haven.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnels to Towers, organizations close to Dave’s heart.
Dave’s legacy of service, faith, and love will live on through all who knew and loved him.
A visitation for Dave will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 327 Avenue C SE, Winter Haven, Florida 33880 followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. He will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. A luncheon will follow immediately after.
