Ann Torbica

She was born in Freedom, Pennsylvania, and was a resident until her retirement in 1979. Ann worked for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania as a Directory Assistance Operator and retired after 32 years of service. Ann was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers Association, a life member of the Serbian Lodge, Braca Jugovici 252, Freedom, PA. and a lifelong member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Church, Aliquippa, PA. Ann was a very loving and generous person. She grew up in a large, closely knit family with five sisters and three brothers. When her older sister, Mildred, passed away, Ann took in her niece (Nadine) and raised her. Her niece refers to her as the "best mother one could ever have." After retiring, Ann assisted Nadine, and her husband, Jeff, with raising their daughter, Jacquelyn (Ann's great-niece) until Jacquelyn went off to college. Jacquelyn refers to her beloved Nanny as her "FP" - Favorite Person.

Ann was an avid baseball fan and always looked forward to Opening Day of the season for her beloved Pirates and Chicago Cubs . In her early years, she played softball and earned the nickname "Ty Cobb" due to her home run average.

She is survived by her loving "niece/daughter", Nadine Karamarkovich Craig; "son-in-law", Jeffrey Craig, Summerfield, FL, and "granddaughter", Jacquelyn Craig Cohan, Houston, TX. Sisters: Mary Loverich, Beaver, PA ; Diane Jarzynka (Anthony "Jinks"), Scranton, PA.; sister-in-law, Libby Torbic, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and 14 nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday with Pomen at 7:30 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME INC., 273 Route 68, (GPS: 848 Sunflower Road), Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum), where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, with the Very Rev. Father Stevan Stepanov officiating. Private interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date.
