

Helen Rose Matson died peacefully at age 96. She was always surrounded by her loving family and is survived by her daughter Glenda Sue George; son Stephen Glenn Matson (Kathy); granddaughters Darcy Leigh Granados, Savannah Perry (Dan), and Dawn Helen Scherer (Eddie); grandson Spencer Matson (Becca), and grand-stepsons Miles George (Shannon), John George (Maria), and Jared George. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Ira and Dorothy May of Newton, Illinois, four of her five siblings, and her beloved husband Glenn Dayton Matson.
Born in Newton, Illinois, Helen grew up on a farm with her 5 siblings and parents. She married Glenn (Jack) Matson in 1946. After his 20-year naval career, in 1960 they settled in Kissimmee, Florida where Jack then retired from the USPS and Helen worked 20 years as Secretary for the Kissimmee Christian Church.
Helen moved to Merritt Island in 2016 to live with her daughter Glenda and granddaughter Savannah and to be near her son Stephen who also lives in Merritt Island. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren also live in the vicinity.
Helen was a kind, thoughtful, and generous person and will be remembered for her sense of humor, playing her favorite card game Hand & Foot, and always thinking of others before herself. She was quick with a kind word, participated in a prayer chain, and was always concerned for the welfare of others. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Helen will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park, Florida. A private service for family will be held on February 16th. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Kissimmee Christian Church on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 pm.
