Jerome “Jerry” E. Banks, age 86, passed away May 26, 2026. His love for life, determination, and great sense of humor guided him through his several-month fight with cancer. His favorite motto throughout it all came from his late cousin and lifelong friend: “As Gilbert would say, ‘Press on Regardless!’”
He was born November 3, 1939, in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Norman and Bridget Banks.
Jerry served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960 and later returned to the area where he grew up, settling in Fern Park, Florida. It was there that he developed a passion for the sport of Jai Alai, while also forming many lifelong friendships that he deeply valued over the years.
Jerry followed his love of adventure and travel to many countries around the world, learning to speak several languages along the way. He often traveled by cargo ship, stopping at different ports along the journey, never knowing how long he would remain before continuing on to the next destination. His favorite places to visit were Italy and Spain, where he enjoyed spending time with distant relatives. His days on the beaches of Mallorca became some of his most cherished memories and favorite stories to share.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered for his kind and caring heart.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Norman E. and Bridget Planes Banks; his brother, John N. Banks; and his sister-in-law, Joyce E. Banks.
