

John was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on June 6, 1922. He moved to Niagara Falls, NY as a child. He lived there for almost 50 years prior to moving to Florida in 1976.
John had a variety of occupations during his working years. In Niagara Falls he was a factory worker at Hooker Chemical, salesman for Ballantine Beer, owned a bar for a few years in the 1960’s, and worked for a pizza distributor in the 1970’s before moving to Florida. In Florida he was a construction worker with Laborer’s Local 517. After his retirement, he enjoyed working part-time as a driver for Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
John was a proud veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Europe and North Africa. He was in the invasion of Normandy on “D-Day”, June 6, 1944, his 22nd birthday. He was active in several veterans organizations for the remainder of his life- VFW, American Legion, and All-Airborne.
In 2011 he was surprised to receive a box from Belgium. It contained his personal possessions, photos, and letters that he had left behind when staying with a Belgian family for a brief time during the war, 65 years earlier!
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosina “Rose” Archie D'Amore: his daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Rohm Robert, of Burlington Ontario: his son and daughter-in-law John D. and Pamela D’Amore, of Apopka, FL. His granddaughter Andrea Shrader and her husband Robert, of Minneola, FL; his grandson, John M. D'Amore and fiancee Melissa Calger, of Coral Springs, FL, 2 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Abigail Shrader and his sister, Gloria Zulke of Lewiston, NY.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 11:00AM at the outdoor pavilion of VFW Post 2093, 4444 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, FL.
