

Leon Charles Singleton, Sr., beloved son of the late Nelly Jenkins and Leon Singleton, peacefully passed into eternal rest on May 2, 2025. Born on August 17, 1931, in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina. Leon lived a life filled with love, dedication, and service. After graduating from Penn Central School, he furthered his education at Savannah State College, where he earned a certificate in General Woodworking from the Division of Trade and Industry. Leon then answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, bravely serving during the Korean War.
In 1954, Leon married Bessie Coaxum (Singleton), and together they built a legacy, blessing the world with their children: Leroy (deceased), Carol, Irvin, Leon Jr., Kathy, Fay, and Deborah. Seeking new opportunities, Leon relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he became known as an exemplary mail carrier and driver for the U.S Postal Service. Leon and Bessie later separated and divorced.
Leon’s career path later led him to the New York Telephone Company, where he worked diligently until retirement. It was there he met Monica Singleton, his beloved wife, with whom he shared a loving bond that produced their daughter Natasha and embraced his stepchildren Denise, Robert, and Richard (Deceased).
Leon will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering dedication to his family, and the spirited warmth that touched the lives of all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.
Leon was preceded in death by his siblings Abraham, Phillip, Virginia, and Selena; his son Leroy, stepson Richard, daughter-in-law Kim Sun, and his grandchildren, Irvin, Jr., and Saniah Gonzalez.
Leon leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife Monica and his children: Carol, Irvin, Leon Jr., Kathy, Fay, Deborah, Natasha, Denise, and Robert; his grandchildren: Carona (Shaun), Ronald Jr., Leandre, Sherice, Charita (Jason), Cynthia, Levon (Noveliza), Antoine, Jason, Asha, Elijah Kenneth Jr., LaShan, Joshua (Capren); his great-grandchildren, Erica, Vernon, Moriah, Carter, Leia, Cameron, Jasmine, Naomi, Levon Jr., Jonnae, Bishop, and Bishme Jr., his great-great-grandchild Freya, (1) son-in-law, Ronald Sr., (1) daughter-in-law, Dorothy “Peaches”, (1) special brother, Henry Jenkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Leon will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
