
Shelby C. Spears, 96, passed away at home on January 29, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Shelby, the son of Homer Lucien and Cora Hooten Spears, was born on May 9, 1919 in Samson, Ala. He moved to Orlando at age 6 where he lived most of his life, graduating from Orlando High School. He became a captain in the army during WWII. After a career as a mortgage banking executive, he retired and moved from Ponte Vedra Bch. back to Orlando to build custom homes. Shelby was also an elder in the Presbyterian church. Family always came first for Shelby. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 32 yrs., Jean T. Spears; his son Glen Spears (Lisa); daughter Shelley McMillan (George); three grandchildren, Shelby Carroll (Chris), Sam Spears (Layne), and Eleanor McMillan; and great- granddaughter Meg Spears. Shelby was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Glen W. Spears; his wives, Eleanor Kirker Spears, the mother of his children, and Barbara J. Spears. A celebration of Shelby’s life will take place in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church in downtown Orlando on Fri., Feb. 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Prior to the service, beginning at 10:30 AM, the family will receive friends. A private burial will take place at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park following the service. Baldwin Fairchild-Ivanhoe is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to thank our wonderful home caregivers and the VA Home Medical Team for the care they gave Shelby.
