Woodman, Victor Edward “Woody” of Orlando, FL went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on September 21, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends after a valiant battle with cancer. Born February 1, 1930 to Joseph and Ella Woodman in NYC; however, his parents moved to Jacksonville, FL when he was a baby. He enjoyed a happy childhood there with his two younger sisters, Roxy and Bobbi.
Woody is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan, son Doug (Ann) Woodman, daughter Melissa Woodman, all of Orlando; sister Bobbi (Mac) Macdonald of Silver Springs, MD; stepson Dr. Mike (Heidi) Honeywell of Huntsville, AL; and stepdaughter Francie (Brad) Wanzenberg of Gainesville, FL. Papa was a loving and proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren: Joey and J.B. Woodman of Orlando; Katherine and Jefferson Honeywell of New Orleans; Brandon and Hudson Honeywell of Huntsville, AL; and Alex and Annie Wanzenberg of Gainesville, FL.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Roxy (Jim) Leiby, infant son Kimball, and stepson Jeff (Anne) Honeywell.
Upon graduation from Lee High School where he was a state champion sprinter, Woody was awarded an athletic scholarship to the University of Alabama. During his years at Alabama he was active in many campus activities, in particular the Iota Iota Chapter of Sigma Chi where he served as Consul (President) on three separate occasions. Woody earned his undergraduate business degree in 1951 and Juris Doctorate law degree in 1954 from the University of Alabama.
Woody served in the USAF as a 2nd Lt. in the Judge Advocate Division, stationed in Scotland. In 1958 he and his former wife Louise settled in Winter Park, FL. In January 1964 Woody joined the law firm now known as Winderweedle, Haines, Ward and Woodman, P.A. For 51 years Woody served as associate, partner, leader and mentor of his beloved law firm.
Counselor Woodman was a long-term member of The Florida Bar and Orange County Bar Association. He served as a Director of the Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund, Inc. (1985 – present) and as Chairman (1990-92). He was a Member of the Federal Judicial Nominating Committee (1981-86). In 1992 he served as Chair of the Orange County Charter Commission. For the past 26 years he has been a Trustee of the Elizabeth Morse Genius and Charles Hosmer Morse Foundations in Winter Park. Woody enjoyed four decades as a member of the Country Club of Orlando where he served as a Board Member and President. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando.
Woody was a humble man who never wanted attention as he served others. He was intentional in his personal & business relationships and loved the many family trips where all 19 of us spent a week together under one roof. Woody and Susan enjoyed traveling, but his favorite times were spent at their summer home in North Carolina. For many summers, they would load up their dogs and head to the mountains where they enjoyed golf and good times with friends. Although an avid Alabama fan, Woody became a Gator Booster to support Susan’s love for her alma mater. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, clients and business associates.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart of the City Foundation – Second Mile Fund, 106 East Church Street, Orlando, FL 32801.
