Bill Holloway - Many people knew him, few will forget him. Bill Holloway passed away Wednesday October 1 2014 in Broadview Saskatchewan the community in which he was born and where he lived most of his life. Father, Grandfather, Friend, Sport Fan, Plumber, Business owner, story teller and a man whose humor and antics touched the lives of many.
Born in 1932, he was the only child of George and Florence Holloway. His life of a small town boy was riddled with stories that books could be written about. He enjoyed sports, playing pranks with his friends and just generally getting into mischief .
Growing up in a railroad community, he started his working career with the CPR. For five years he moved his family around to where the job took him. When it became apparent that he would never get the seniority to continue, he returned to Broadview to start a plumbing and heating business with his Dad. Water and sewer was now available and so work was plentiful.
Bill married Helen Palik in 1954. They had four children, Karen, Jackie, Ron and Paul. Helen passed away in 2011.
Bill was a community man. He was a charter member of the Lions Club. He has been on Town Council and was a volunteer Fire Fighter, a member of the curling club and golf club. As a young man he played baseball and later became a keen curler with many proud experiences with his buddies. He became a well-respected fastball umpire. He also took up golf in his later years earning somewhat less respect for this. In his retirement he became a regular at coffee row.
Bill loved his Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jay and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Although his T.V. had several channels, it never left TSN. He was a friend to many and most had a nickname. If you had a nickname, you were part of his circle and a friend. While he could sometimes infuriate even his closest friends, everyone who met him knew the real Bill - what you saw was what you got. 'Nuff said.
No service by request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadview Lion's Club
