It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol Schroeder (nee Sexsmith), beloved mother, grandmother and friend. Born on August 26, 1943, Carol passed away suddenly on January 18th, 2023.
Predeceased by her parents Gordon and Margaret Sexsmith; her husband Gordon Schroeder; her sister Connie Robins and numerous aunts and uncles.
Carol is survived by her daughters: Heather Mollison (Warren), Michelle Furber (Darcy) and her son Michael Schroeder (Cindy) as well as her grandchildren: Isaac and Rachel Mollison, Caitlyn and Zoe Furber, Abigail and Preston Schroeder and several nieces and nephews.
Carol graduated from nursing in 1964 and it was while training for her career at the Grey Nuns’ Hospital that she met the love of her life, Gordon Schroeder. Carol and Gordon shared a singular bond, obvious to anyone fortunate enough to cross their path. Carol had many passions in life, including gardening, tending to her flowers, later incorporating them into her well known pressed flower artwork. She loved cooking, crafts and caring for her pets.
Whatever Carol enjoyed doing, she did it exceedingly well. Carol was also a published author, having written a non-fiction book, SW Seventeen, A Prairie Girl Remembers, about her life growing up on the Saskatchewan Prairie. Carol was a proud prairie land owner, taking joy in the ownership and stewardship of her farm. Carol’s love of music was present throughout her life, from singing with her father, singing in the church choir and as a long time member of the a cappella group Prairie Gold. She was a faithful member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Regina, and a long-standing member of the LWMLC, serving on numerous committees over the years.
In all that she did, Carol lived out her Christianity through loving care-taking. Her devoted presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren will be sorely missed, but there is comfort releasing her into the embrace of her Maker. There will be great rejoicing in heaven as she is reunited with many departed souls and her late husband Gordon will lovingly and joyfully welcome her home. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the love she shared.
