It is with profound sorrow that the family of Margaret Darlene (Wiggins) Wicklund announces her passing at the age of 84. She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Lois Wiggins, brothers Keith (Marlene) and Dale (Sheaunid). She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul, her children David (Nancy) and Lisa; her grandsons Nicholas and Stephen; granddogs Migual and Quill, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Darlene was born in 1937 in Huronville, SK, to Charles and Lois Wiggins. She was the youngest of three children, and grew up on the family farm. Vivacious and popular, Darlene was active in drama, music, curling and soft ball. After completing teacher's college in Moose Jaw she married her childhood sweetheart Paul on June 28, 1958. They moved to his father's farm near Montmartre, and farmed there for decades.
Darlene was a dedicated teacher and a devoted mother to her two challenging children. A woman of great natural aptitude, humour and technical skill, she could master most any pursuit, from driving a tractor to sewing beautiful gowns. She was a skilled seamstress, quilter, knitter, baker, carpenter, gardener, and all around problem solver. She never stopped learning or teaching.
Darlene deeply loved her family and spent many hours teaching her city grandsons about country living. She loved to read and watch the Blue Jays play. She enjoyed walking, curling, golfing, and playing cards — though her gracious ,non competitive spirit would often hand you the win.
Darlene was a keeper of secrets, a cool cucumber and a true class act. Every person could find a friend in Darlene, who was trustworthy, non-judgmental and a woman of great integrity. She was a loyal friend, an ally, and a peacemaker. She had an easy laugh and reassuring way that, regardless of the circumstance, would always leave you feeling like everything was going to be okay.
We would like to thank those at the Montmartre Health Centre who showed Darlene great care and compassion during her time there.
A celebration of Darlene's life will be held in June when the flowers in Saskatchewan will be just starting to bloom. Details of her service will be announced at that time.
