Duane was the beloved son of Marianne and George Beliveau; brother of Dennis, Colleen (Kelly Hollinger), Colette (Darren Boyko), and Crystal; uncle of Nathan, Megan and Tyson (Colleen) and DeVon, Madison and Damyn (Colette); cousin, nephew and grandson of the Kriesers on Mom’s side and the Beliveaus on Dad’s side.
He was a Habs fan, a cat lover, a coffee shop buddy and a witty observer of the everyday. Duane was born and raised in Wolseley, Saskatchewan. After high school, he moved to Saskatoon and got a diploma in Mechanical Engineering at the SIAST Kelsey campus. He did a stint at Johnson Controls in Prince Albert before moving to Regina where he worked at SaskPower for the rest of his career.
He bought a little bungalow on the east side of the city and became a regular at the local Tim Hortons where he met up with his crew to share stories, jokes and witticisms. He loved cats and welcomed two in particular into his heart and his home: first Bud, a big orange butterball that would plop on its side in a way that made the floorboards shudder and, later, Tazz, a sleek grey and white charmer that helped Duane transition into, and then revel in, the pleasures of retirement.
Duane enjoyed the simple joys of life, loved a good meal, was happy to oblige when we’d say, “Grab a plate!”, never refused seconds and would offer glowing culinary reviews like, “Mmm… this is marvy!” Though he watched most of his hockey on TV, he got to see a Habs game in Jean Beliveau’s seat in the late nineties, and this kindness extended to him by our family hero remained one of the greatest thrills of his life. Duane is and will be forever and deeply missed.
A private graveside service was held at the Saint Anne’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Wolseley, where Mom and Dad carried him home.
