
On April 2, 2011, Herbert George Fitch, beloved husband of Frances Lilian Fitch, of Mission B.C. died at the age of 90 years. The funeral service will be held in the Broadview and District Community Hall, Broadview, SK., on Sunday April 10th at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Wilkins officiating. Interment in the Broadview Cemetery. Predeceased by his parents William Arthur Fitch in 1938 and Caroline Fitch Dyke in 1975, stepfather Jacob F. Dyke in 1980, sister Muriel Fitch in 1926, brother William (Bill) Fitch in 2009, brother-in-law Clifford Galbraith in 1963, sisters-in-law Gladys (Teddy) Fitch in 1987 and Marion Peterson in 1993, daughter-in-law Annette Fitch in 2002; father-in-law Fred Pickup in 1977 and mother-in-law Grace (Mott) Pickup in 2001. Herb is survived by his wife Frances Fitch, his son Richard (Rick) Fitch, daughter-in-law Wendy Lewington, sister Esther Galbraith and family, brothers Alvin Fitch and family and Ken Fitch and family, grandchildren Jeff Boland, Pamela Boland, Nathan Boland, Anna Coulter, Claire Coulter, and Nicola Coulter, great-grandsons Zachary Boland, Aiden Ferrier and Saul Lavigne, brother-in-law Raymond Peterson and family, brother-in-law John Pickup, wife Myrna and family, sister-in-law Lorraine Guertin, husband Jack and family. Herb was born on March 6, 1921 at Oakshela, Saskatchewan. He lived in Oakshela for several years before moving to Regina with his family. He returned to Oakshela area in 1934. He eventually moved to a farm in the Edgewood district. He received his early education at the Lakeview, Imperial, and Kitchener schools in Regina. He finished his grade 8 education in Oakshela and grade 9 and 10 at Edgewood School. Herb was united in marriage to Frances Lilian Pickup on July 11, 1951. They were blessed with one son, Richard Herbert Fitch on March 20, 1954. Herb farmed in the Edgewood and Hillesden Districts until 1960. In 1957 he worked on the pipeline. In 1959, Herb started working at the lumberyard as a casual labourer and became manager in 1960. Herb ret
ired in 1982. Herb served as councilor for the town of Broadview for six years, president for the Broadview Boy Scouts, and treasurer for the Broadview Community Arts Council and the Broadview Lions Club. He was on the Broadview Housing Board for eighteen years. Herb enjoyed woodworking, creating stained glass work and travelling.
