Mum was a powerful lady with a joyful spirit and great love for our Dad. She married Harry Malcolm Mitchell of Bedford, N.S. on August 26, 1967. A marriage that was to last for fifty-one years. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren. She was a stay at home mum who taught her children perseverance, courage and a love of adventure.
She grew up in a time of great sacrifice after the second World War and passed on to her kids a practical way of making things happen even in difficult times. She was a fantastic swimmer (from days swimming at the Pictou Landing wharf), a beautiful skater (taking after her Dad “Bun”, a Pictou Co. hockey hall of famer), and an avid horsewoman (handling the reins of a race horse with ease). She was never without change in her purse for the concession machine at the rink …. a fact her grandkids knew well. She loved fishing, feeding her birds, and sending funny emojis on her phone (once she learned how to use it). Mum had a great network of friends that visited for tea and biscuits or for a quick road trip to a neighboring town and our thanks go out to them for their love and support.
Our family wishes to thank Whitewood EMS, the staff at the St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, and the staff at the Yorkton Regional Hospital for the dedication and care that they showed towards our mother. Mum said, “they are taking such good care of me.” We are grateful for their professionalism and empathy in these difficult times.
Donations may be made to support other families whose lives have been affected by COVID.
A private family service will follow at a later date.
We wish mum the “Amazing Grace” that she loved to listen to on the piano and a beautiful reunion in Heaven.
